“How Amherst Raises Money from Alums: Calling Them a Bunch of Drunken Lechers.” That was the headline on the blog Stupid Girl citing a Newsweek report that Amherst College sent residence counselors an advisory email that included this warning: “Keep an eye out for unwanted sexual advances. A lot of alums come back for Homecoming pretty jaded with the bar scene and blind dating of the real world and are eager to take advantage of what they now perceive to be an ‘easy’ hook-up scene back at Amherst. Also, many alums tend to be pretty drunk all weekend long.” We are moved by the college’s pride in its graduates. The college president apologized.

It has been solidly established that if a woman has a drink, then she is not responsible for her decisions and is, in fact, a victim awaiting exploitation.
A man on the other hand, has a drink and becomes an uncontrollable violent rapist.
I wonder why Prohibition was so unpopular, given that it appears to have addressed a critical social crisis? We’d better bring it back – and anyone disagreeing obviously hates womyn and insists on propagating the rape culture. -

Is there an easy hookup scene at Amherst or not?
I find it interesting that the “hookup scene” is not criticized- but the idea that a alumni 2-3 years older than an Amherst student participating is beyond the pale. AGEISM!
“Alums tend to be drunk all weekend long”- really? My last homecoming (not Amherst) was mostly alums showing off their kids- maybe they had a beer. -
Biddy Martin didn’t apologize for the implication that male alumni were drunken leaches looking to bed vulnerable coeds but that the coeds couldn’t be protected from having to encounter such persons.
Not that women are helpless and unable to say “no, go away you creep” but that the college would permit them to have to do so — and not just provide them a female-friendly environment where the only sexual advances come from lesbians.
The ultimate irony — at least half of the recent alumni — and likely more than half — are FEMALE. Yep, once all-male Amherst College is not only coed but has had years where the Freshman class has been majority female…
